History of Kratom

Kratom has been gaining popularity as of late. Even though the plant’s characteristics have been in use by humans for decades, it wasn’t until the early 2000s that it gained significant popularity in the medicinal and recreational industries. It stepped into the Western limelight because of its potential pharmacological applications. However, not everything is set in stone as there’s still a need for further studies and research on the plant’s effects on the human mind and body.

Nonetheless, Kratom is considered to be one of the legal hallucinogens in many countries around the globe. However, there are still many who ask, “is kratom legal,” or “is kratom illegal?” Many think that Kratom is illegal, but you can get legal kratom if you know where to look.

Where does Kratom come from?

There’s no definite origin as to where Kratom came from, but it was allegedly first described back in the 19th century by a botanist that went by the name Pieter Willem Korthals. Korthals worked for the East India Company. However, there are also reports that claim that there are other origins of the plant. Some sources mention that the plant was first discovered back in the year 1836. It was it this time that Low mentioned of a plant that fit the description of Kratom. He wrote that the rural and peasant workers of Malaysia used the plant as a substitute whenever opium was unavailable or when the price of the drug skyrocketed. Fast forward to the year 2003, Malaysia started prohibiting the use and distribution of the Mitragynine alkaloid, and this is the main component of several Kratom strains. One year later on August 2004, the ban was further extended to the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa planet. Furthermore, and in the same year as when the rules governing Kratom extended, authorities organized a 4-day operation. During this time, the government targeted and cracked down the Kratom market in some states, them being Kelantan, Pahang, and Terengganu.

What is Kratom’s legality?

Many still ask the question, “What is the kratom legal status?” When you look at the plant’s legality in the United States, it’s, in fact, legal to possess the plant in almost all states. However, there are some states that prohibit the ownership and use of the plant. If you’re wondering where is kratom legal, it’s better to ask local authorities and governing bodies if your state allows the use of Kratom for recreational or medicinal purposes. Also, most countries in the world do legalize owning and using Kratom but do note that not every region on the planet thinks the same way about the plant. Up to this day, there are some individuals who ask, “Is kratom still legal,” and “will kratom stay legal in the future?” There’s no sign of some countries banning the use of Kratom in the near or far future. In fact, there are many circles that deem Kratom to be one of the best legal herbs on the planet that can aid in the treatment and relief of certain mental and physical illnesses.

So, kratom is it legal? The answer to that question depends on where you live. But what about salvia? Is salvia legal? What is salvia legality? Regarding the topic of salvia, that might be a good topic for another time.
